Three death penalty opinions filing tomorrow

May 30, 2018

In what is sure to provide an abundance of gruesome reading, the Supreme Court tomorrow morning will file its opinions in three different death penalty appeals:  People v. Case, People v. Hardy, and People v. Penunuri.  (Briefs here; oral argument videos here, here, and here.)  All three were argued on the large March calendar.

Case is an automatic direct appeal from an October 1996 judgment of death.  (Second District, Division One, Court of Appeal Justice Victoria Gerrard Chaney is the pro tem.)

Hardy is an automatic direct appeal from a January 2003 judgment of death.  (Second District, Division Five, Justice Lamar Baker is the pro tem.)

Penunuri is an automatic direct appeal from a January 2001 judgment of death.  (Second District, Division Four, Justice Thomas L. Willhite, Jr., is the pro tem.)

The three opinions can be viewed tomorrow starting at 10:00 a.m.
