The Supreme Court’s conference is a day early this week

March 11, 2024

The Supreme Court’s conference this week — a double one — will be tomorrow (Tuesday), instead of on Wednesday as is the norm.

Court spokesperson Merrill Balassone says the conference date was moved to accommodate Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address, which was scheduled for Wednesday and which some or all of the justices plan to attend. The address has since been moved to next Monday, however, and the court has opted not to return its conference date to the usual Wednesday.

Court holidays are the typical — although rare — reason for Tuesday conferences. There are three of them coming up later this year.

The list of matters scheduled for tomorrow’s conference is here.
