Emily Cuatto named Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year by Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law

February 10, 2015

The Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law has honored Emily Cuatto with its 2014 Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is given to “a volunteer lawyer who has provided substantial and extraordinary service in a case or cases, or in a subject matter, providing relief to a client or clients who without the assistance, would have been irreparably injured.” The honor recognizes Emily’s successful representation on appeal of a Center client — a mother who had been denied expanded parenting time with her young son. After Emily’s briefing and oral argument, the Court of Appeal issued an opinion in the case — R.R. v. H.F. — that reversed the superior court’s adverse order. The Center earlier had written about the case, calling it a “significant appellate victory for [a] poor mom.”
