At Tuesday’s election, nearly 60 percent of the voters opted to approve an initiative that, as to ambulance workers, overturns the Supreme Court’s 2016 decision in Augustus v. ABM Security Services, Inc., which interpreted a statute and a regulation as requiring uninterrupted rest breaks for employees. New legislation, already in effect, carves out a similar exemption for workers who hold “safety-sensitive position[s] at a petroleum facility.”
