The Doghouse Report looks at pending death penalty litigation in California’s Supreme Court

March 21, 2026

This week’s edition of Daily Journal writer John Roemer’s “The Doghouse Report” (see here) is titled, “Inside the California Supreme Court’s uneasy return to capital punishment.”

It’s mostly about this:  “Two major decisions face the high court: the constitutionality of the Racial Justice Act of 2020, and the fate of an audacious original writ petition by death penalty foes, filed in 2024, challenging capital punishment on equal protection grounds due to an alleged record of racial bias in its application.”
