Supreme Court won’t touch decision that reinstated assisted suicide law

February 27, 2019

Denying a petition for review, and also rejecting the entreaties of the Los Angeles Times editorial board, the Supreme Court today declined to hear a case challenging the End of Life Option Act, a law legalizing what has been variously called aid-in-dying and assisted suicide. In the case — People v. Superior Court (Ahn) — the Fourth District, Division Two, Court of Appeal reversed a superior court judgment that had invalidated the legislation. However, only one of the three appellate court justices rejected the challenge to the law on the merits; the other two found only that the plaintiffs had not yet shown they have standing.
