In In re Lewis, the Supreme Court today vacates a death sentence for a 1983 murder, concluding that substantial evidence supports findings — made by a veteran superior court judge acting as a referee — of the prisoner’s intellectual disability that make him ineligible for execution. The court’s unanimous opinion is by Justice Carol Corrigan. The court had unanimously affirmed the judgment of death in 2004.
