As we reported last week, the opponents of gay marriage have filed a writ petition in the California Supreme Court challenging Governor Brown’s authority to end the statewide enforcement of Proposition 8. They requested that an immediate stay be issued—and that no same-sex marriages be performed—until the writ petition is decided on its merits. Today, as Maura Dolan reports in the Los Angeles Times, the California Supreme Court denied that stay request without comment. A ruling on the writ petition is expected in August.
