Pro tems announced for April calendar

March 14, 2018

When the Supreme Court last week announced its April calendar, the court had yet to assign pro tem justices for the nine cases to be argued. (Have we mentioned the potential institutional problem of pro tem justices? Yes, we have.) Now the court has filled in the blanks, using its mostly alphabetical system for assigning Court of Appeal justices:

County of Los Angeles v. Financial Casualty & Surety Inc.: Second District, Division Three, Presiding Justice Lee Smalley Edmon.

Hassell v. Bird: First District, Division Two, Justice Therese Stewart. (Justice Stewart was originally scheduled to sit pro tem on a March calendar case, but another justice later substituted for her.)

In re Cowan: Sixth District Acting Presiding Justice Franklin Elia.

People v. Anderson: Second District, Division Six, Presiding Justice Arthur Gilbert.

People v. Ghobrial: Third District Justice Kathleen Butz.

National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. v. State of California: Second District, Division Four, Presiding Justice Norman Epstein.

People v. Farwell: Second District, Division Four, Justice Audrey Collins.

People v. Lopez: Fourth District, Division Three, Justice Richard Fybel.

People v. Mora and Rangel: Fifth District Justice Jennifer Detjen.
