Pro tem justices named for October calendar, one for the third time in less than a year

The Supreme Court has announced the Court of Appeal justices who, for the October calendar cases, will temporarily fill the vacancy created a long time ago by Justice Kathryn Werdegar’s retirement.  The pro tem justices are assigned on a mostly alphabetical basis.  The October pro tems, and the previous calendars on which they’ve sat since Justice Werdegar left the court at the end of August 2017, are:

Sierra Club v. County of Fresno:  Third District Court of Appeal Justice Ronald Robie.  This is Justice Robie’s third time helping out the high court since the latest pro tem parade began.  He served on cases on the December 2017 and the late-May 2018 calendars.

Avitia v. Superior Court:  Second District, Division Eight, Justice Laurence Rubin.  Justice Rubin previously sat on the January 2018 calendar.

Dr. Leevil, LLC, v. Westlake Health Care Center:  Fifth District Justice Rosendo Peña, Jr.  Justice Peña sat on the February 2018 calendar.

Gerard v. Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center:  First District, Division Three, Presiding Justice Peter Siggins.  Justice Siggins sat on the February 2018 calendar.

People v. Franco:  First District, Division Three, Justice Stuart Pollak.  Justice Pollak sat on the January 2018 calendar.

People v. Superior Court (Smith):  Second District, Division Seven, Justice John Segal.  Justice Segal sat on the January 2018 calendar.

In re B.M.:  Third District Justice Jonathan Renner.  Justice Renner sat on the February 2018 calendar.

People v. Johnson:  Third District Presiding Justice Vance Raye.  Justice Raye sat on the January 2018 calendar.
