Only Latinos currently being vetted for Supreme Court vacancy, according to Daily Journal

May 2, 2014

Emily Green reports in today’s Daily Journal [subscription required] that Governor Brown’s office has asked “a handful of attorneys and judges” to vet six candidates — all of them Latino — for the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Joyce Kennard’s retirement.  Of the six, some were mentioned as potential nominees in earlier Daily Journal and Los Angeles Times articles:  Sixth District Court of Appeal Justice Miguel Márquez, U.S. District Court Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, UCLA  School of Law Dean Rachel Moran, and Stanford University law professor Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar.  Two names are new:  U.S. District Court Judge Fernando Olguin and USF School of Law Dean John Trasviña.

As noted, if the governor takes as long to name Justice Kennard’s successor as he did to replace Justice Moreno with Justice Liu, it will be another four months before we learn of a nomination.
