“One of California’s most powerful posts has been empty for almost six months”

February 11, 2018

John Myers reports in the Los Angeles Times today about the long-open Supreme Court seat.  The article comes on Day 340 since Justice Kathryn Werdegar announced her retirement.  As the article points out, Justice Werdegar left the court almost six months ago and “it wasn’t as though she quit suddenly, having given [Governor Jerry] Brown more than five months’ notice.”  Brown probably could have named a replacement at any time after Werdegar’s retirement announcement, even before there was actually a vacancy.

According to the Times, the Governor says his search for a new justice is “‘going very well.  I’m searching my mind very carefully.'”
