After Senator Diane Feinstein died on Friday and before Governor Gavin Newsom named Laphonza Butler to serve the 15 months remaining on Feinstein’s term, the Los Angeles Times published a list of possible Newsom picks. Newsom had earlier pledged to choose a black woman to fill any potential vacancy.
Justice Leondra Kruger was on the Times list.
