Jeremy Rosen to speak at Jan. 17 ethics panel on In Re Garcia

January 10, 2013

On January 17, Horvitz & Levy partner Jeremy B. Rosen will participate in panel discussion regarding a pending California Supreme Court case, In re Garcia, which raises the question whether an undocumented immigrant can be admitted to the State Bar of California. Mr. Garcia himself will participate in the discussion, along with former Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno, State Bar of California Executive Director Joe Dunn and Juan Ramos, Adjunct Professor of Law at Southwestern Law School. The panel is presented by the LA Law Library, the Mexican American Bar Association, and the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. Attendees will receive CLE credit for 1.5 hours of Legal Ethics.

After the panel, anyone who is interested can attend a free one-hour CLE training on Deferred Action. The training will be provided by the LACBA Immigration Section and the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and will educate pro bono volunteers on how to help individuals apply for deferred action under President Obama’s new Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Policy, which allows eligible young undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children (DREAMers) to apply for work authorization and be safe from deportation for two years at a time.
