Former Justice Moreno joins call for U.S. Supreme Court term limits

October 23, 2024

Former California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno signed a letter to Congressional leaders urging the adoption of term limits for U.S. Supreme Court justices. The October 16 message has 57 signatories, who identify themselves as “constitutional scholars and retired judges.”

The letter disavows support for any specific legislation, but says, “term limits are urgently needed at a time of plummeting confidence in the Supreme Court” and it claims “it is within Congress’s constitutional authority to establish a system of Supreme Court term limits through legislation.”
