Florida intermediate appellate court reverses $50 million punitive damages award

The Insurance Journal reports on the reversal of a $200 million jury verdict that included $50 million in punitive damages. The plaintiffs in this case are the heirs of a woman who committed suicide after staff at a children’s hospital reported her as a suspected child abuser. The appellate court concluded that multiple errors occurred at trial, warranting a new trial.
