A California Courts news release by Merrill Balassone reports on this temporary amendment to Supreme Court policies.
The amendment, operative from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026, says in part that “habeas corpus counsel appointed by this court prior to July 1, 2023, may seek prior approval and subsequent compensation from this court for attorney fees and investigative expenses in connection with representation of inmates subject to a sentence of death raising claims under the Racial Justice Act of 2020, regardless of whether that work is or will be performed in connection with an initial habeas corpus petition previously transferred by this court to a superior court.”
