Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye is interviewed by Bay Area NPR station KQED

Here, for your listening pleasure, is a recent lengthy interview with the Chief Justice, conducted by Scott Shafer of Bay Area NPR-affiliate KQED. In the wide-ranging interview, the Chief discusses such topics as her judicial philosophy, the impact of budget cuts on California courts, and the pending challenge to Proposition 8. Of particular interest, she talks about the challenge to the centralization of court administration that has been mounted by those judges favoring greater autonomy for local courts. (We most recently blogged about that controversy here.) The Chief explains that she is seeking “the best possible balance of resources” among California’s courts, and would like to hear from the critics of centralization some concrete examples of how to create more efficiencies.
