Governor Jerry Brown released a revised state budget proposal today. Although the Governor’s news release barely mentions the courts in its list of “significant details” about the proposal, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye praised the revised budget in a statement: “The Governor’s wise budget proposal is very welcome news for our court system. His budget would restore and provide more in-person and online services for court users, increase language access, and invest in our infrastructure. The proposed budget will improve access to justice for all Californians.” It looks like the May revision in particular significantly raises the amount allocated to judicial infrastructure compared to the January proposal.
