“California Supreme Court turns down abortion challenge by missionary group”

November 21, 2019

Bob Egelko reports in the San Francisco Chronicle about the Supreme Court’s denial at yesterday’s conference of a depublication request in Missionary Guadalupanas Of The Holy Spirit Inc. v. Rouillard.  The Third District Court of Appeal’s opinion rejected a challenge to a determination by the California Department of Managed Health Care that a “voluntary” abortion is a “medically necessary” procedure, which health care service plans are required to cover.  The article says that the plaintiff “missionary group said its members belonged to health service plans and objected to paying premiums that could subsidize other members’ abortions.”
