Richard Jagdishwar Millett brings the perspective of a former law clerk and former trial court litigator to appellate advocacy and trial consulting.
Richard has significant experience consulting on litigation strategy, drafting and opposing dispositive motions, helping preserve legal issues at trial, and litigating posttrial motions and appeals. His work spans complex civil matters, including class-action privacy and consumer protection litigation, partnership and contract disputes, intellectual property actions, litigation under the False Claims Act, and other high‑stakes commercial and statutory disputes.
Before joining Horvitz & Levy, Richard served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Milan D. Smith, Jr., on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Honorable James Donato on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Prior to that, Richard also interned for Justices Barbara Lenk and Frank Gaziano on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Consequently, in his cases, Richard is able to leverage an inside perspective on all three levels of the judicial system: trial court, intermediate appeals court, and apex appeals court. Additionally, after his clerkships, Richard gained practical litigation experience at a top-tier class-action defense boutique and a renowned nationwide law firm, where he handled a wide range of complex civil cases and independently led a civil harassment trial to a successful verdict.
Richard graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, earning multiple Dean’s Scholar prizes and co-authoring an article on the use of A.I. tools in criminal sentencing. Before that, he received his A.B. in Government cum laude from Harvard College, receiving high honors on his senior thesis applying game theory concepts to the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
