“An extraordinary and influential California Supreme Court staff attorney”

November 12, 2020

In today’s Daily Journal, the Supreme Court’s current Chief Supervising Attorney Jake Dear praises Harold “Hal” Cohen, who retired this summer after a half-century career working at the court as a staff attorney for eight different justices, as the Chief Supervising Attorney before Dear, and, most recently, as a “retired annuitant” and in a “voluntary emeritus position.”

Dear writes because few “understand and appreciate the magnitude of [Cohen’s] contributions and dedication.”  Until now, at least.

The column — a longer version of which will appear in an upcoming Review of the California Supreme Court Historical Society — includes acclaim by a number of present and former justices and staff attorneys.
