The article speculates that the unannounced reason for the no-shows is who was scheduled to be the luncheon’s speaker — San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi, who “is not exactly the legal establishment’s golden boy right now — not with four lawyers in his office having launched campaigns to unseat San Francisco Superior Court judges in this year’s elections because they were appointed by Republican governors.”
The Lawyers Club of San Francisco, which has hosted the Supreme Court luncheon for 69 years, says the cancellation is “due to late arising obligations by the Justices.”
