“Alex Jones gets Sandy Hook family’s Texas verdict reduced on appeal”

August 21, 2026

Reuters reports that the Texas Court of Appeals has reduced a $45.2 million punitive damages award against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to $1.5 million ($750,000 per plaintiff).

We noted when the verdict came down that Texas law requires this reduction. The trial court declined to follow that law, in a ruling that seemed legally questionable. We weren’t sure whether Jones would appeal, but he did and, not surprisingly, the Court of Appeals reversed.

It probably doesn’t matter much. Jones is facing a separate $1.4 billion award in Connecticut court, and that award has been upheld on appeal. Jones has declared bankruptcy and his assets have been liquidated.
