Alex Sistla

Before joining the firm, Alex served as an Assistant United States Attorney for nearly fourteen years, including most recently as Deputy Chief of the Complex Frauds and Cybercrime section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.

As a federal prosecutor, he led many complex criminal investigations and prosecutions, including cases involving corporate embezzlement, environmental crimes, healthcare fraud, investor fraud, online/crypto-enabled frauds, money laundering, public corruption, child exploitation, and cyberstalking. Alex has tried more than a dozen jury trials, briefed approximately 30 federal appeals, and presented multiple oral arguments before the Sixth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. Among his representative trial experience is serving as lead counsel in the prosecutions of a federal correctional officer, who was convicted of bribery, contraband smuggling, and drug charges; a former government contractor, who was convicted of defrauding FEMA in connection with a $156 million contract; and the ringleader of a money laundering group, who was convicted of laundering more than $10 million in online fraud proceeds from business email compromises, romance frauds, and other schemes. Alex received two U.S. Attorney’s Awards for his work and also served as one of the Northern District of Georgia’s Ethics Advisors and on the hiring committee.

Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Justice, Alex was an associate with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, LLP, and clerked for the Hon. Myron H. Bright of the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Eighth Circuit, and the Hon. J. Curtis Joyner of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Alex graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
