On Friday, Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero joined U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Murguia in a Fireside Chat at Occidental College.
Guerrero is the first Latina California Supreme Court justice (and chief justice). (Also here and links there.) Sotomayor is the first Latina jurist on the high court. Murguia is the first Latina to serve as a chief judge of any federal appellate court.
When Guerrero joined the California Supreme Court, Justice Sotomayor sent a letter congratulating Guerrero on her “historic appointment.” (Here.)
Farah Tabibkhoei, president of Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, reported that Guerrero’s colleague, Justice Kelli Evans, moderated the program.
