H&L partner David Axelrad to participate in mock argument on global warming liability on Jan. 19

On Thursday, January 19, 2012, Horvitz & Levy partner David Axelrad will argue unresolved standing and political question issues raised by public nuisance litigation seeking redress for the alleged consequences of global warming. In a mock U.S. Supreme Court oral argument to be presented at the University of Houston Law Center for Environment, Energy & Natural Resources program in Houston, Texas, Mr. Axelrad, who will advocate the plaintiffs’ position, will oppose Richard Faulk, Chair of the Litigation Department and an experienced appellate advocate at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP in Houston, Texas. The panel of judges includes former Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court Thomas R. Phillips, former U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Judge and current president of Baylor University Kenneth Starr, and John Crudent, president of the Environmental Law Institute.
