Court of Appeal Presiding Justice — and long-time legal columnist — Arthur Gilbert recently wrote in the Daily Journal a piece cryptically headlined “Part II,” but more illuminatingly subtitled, “The remarkable Philip S. Gibson shaped California law through his relentless pursuit of clarity and constitutional justice.”
The piece is full of effusive praise about Gibson and includes lengthy quotes about the former Chief Justice by Ellis Horvitz, whom Gilbert calls “[o]ne of our leading appellate lawyers.” The quotes are from a conversation Gilbert had with Horvitz, and also from a short 1984 law review article Horvitz wrote about Gibson.
