Historical Society program next week about Native American activist’s extradition fight

December 29, 2024

Next Tuesday, January 7, the California Supreme Court Historical Society will present a webinar, “State of South Dakota v. Brown.” The noon program “focuses on the executive and judicial decisions surrounding Governor Jerry Brown’s 1978 decision to refuse to extradite [American Indian Movement activist] Dennis Banks to South Dakota.”

Society board member John Wierzbicki will present and former Court of Appeal Justice Anthony Kline will introduce the program. Kline was Governor Brown’s Legal Affairs Secretary at the time of the Banks extradition fight.

Registration for the program is here. It is free to all, except there’s a $25 fee for non-Society members who want MCLE credit, which will include “Elimination of bias” credit.
