Blogging rule: reporting that an impending opinion is about Frankie Valli is more likely to get attention than saying the opinion is about community property and insurance policies. However, both are accurate descriptions of the decision that the Supreme Court will file tomorrow.
In In re Marriage of Valli, the court will decide whether an insurance policy on the husband’s life was the wife’s separate property upon dissolution of the marriage, even though the policy was purchased during the marriage and the premiums prior to the couple’s separation were paid with community funds, because the policy listed the wife as the owner.
Valli will be the first of the cases argued in April to have an opinion issued.
