The Supreme Court’s Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions is looking for a full-time staff attorney. (Job posting here.)
The California Constitution provides, “The Supreme Court shall make rules for the conduct of judges, both on and off the bench, and for judicial candidates in the conduct of their campaigns.” It’s one of the court’s many responsibilities besides deciding cases. (See here.)
The court established the committee and appoints its members, but “the committee acts independently of the Supreme Court, the Commission on Judicial Performance, and all other entities.” (Rule 9.80(b).)
Among other things, the staff attorney will assist the committee in “[p]reparing formal, informal, and expedited written opinions.” The committee’s chair — Third District Acting Presiding Justice Ronald Robie — says that the “recruitment is statewide and remote work options are available.”
