The Chief Justice has Covid

June 6, 2022

The Supreme Court’s Clerk/Executive Officer Jorge Navarrete just issued this statement:

Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye tested positive for COVID-19 and is exhibiting mild symptoms. She is fully vaccinated and received two booster shots.

The Chief Justice will be working in isolation in accordance with state and local health guidelines, but will not participate in remote oral argument on Tuesday.  [Link added.]

If agreed upon by counsel, the Chief Justice will review video recordings of oral argument. For those attorneys who want to continue with oral argument, the Supreme Court has drawn up a stipulated order that would permit the Chief Justice to participate by reviewing the recordings.
