Justice Kathryn Werdegar is presenting a Jefferson Memorial Lecture at UC Berkeley tomorrow afternoon, entitled “Living with Direct Democracy: The California Supreme Court and the Initiative Power — 100 Years of Accommodation.” (Hat tip: California Supreme Court Historical Society.) It is unlikely that she could be any more critical of initiatives than former Chief Justice Ronald George was when he said the process has “rendered our state government dysfunctional.”
