Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye issued an order today informing that the Supreme Court’s San Francisco offices will be closed today and tomorrow “[d]ue to circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Also, using her powers under rule 8.66 as Chair of the Judicial Council (see here), the Chief Justice provides in the order that “any filings with the court that are not subject to mandatory electronic filing . . . and are due on either of these dates shall be deemed timely if filed on September 25, 2020.” (Link added.)

Administrative Order 2020-9-23 relates to actions taken by the California Department of General Services (DGS), who manage the 350 McAllister Building, under their COVID-19 Protocols.
Out of an abundance of caution the court has decided to close its public operations in the building to enable DGS to implement their COVID-19 Protocols.
Earlier this year the court implemented a Telework Program with the majority of its staff and the justices not being present onsite, except for staff providing services to the public in the Clerk’s Office.
With its closure order the court has also taken action on extension of time.
