Peter Abrahams joined the firm as a partner in 1986. He has handled hundreds of civil appeals in the California Court of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Abrahams’ successes include the reversal of a $12 million judgment in Baker v. National Interstate Insurance Company (2009) and a win before the Ninth Circuit in Northrup Grumman Corp. v. Factory Mut. Ins Co. (2008), a case involving a dispute over insurance coverage for $1 billion in damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.
Prior to joining Horvitz & Levy, Mr. Abrahams was a name partner with O’Flaherty, Abrahams & Carl. Earlier, he served as a research attorney at the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District. He is admitted to practice before California state courts, the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Abrahams is the author or co-author of articles on civil procedure and appellate law topics, and has been a frequent Continuing Education of the Bar lecturer. He is “AV Preeminent” rated by Martindale Hubbell, has also been named a Best Lawyer by The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2007, and has been listed ten times as a Southern California Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine, most recently in 2017. In 2014 Mr. Abrahams was also named one of the Top 100 Southern California attorneys by Super Lawyers.
