Horvitz & Levy partners David Axelrad and Lisa Perrochet receive CLAY award.
February 21, 2011
California Lawyer magazine has announced that Horvitz & Levy LLP partners David Axelrad and Lisa Perrochet have received a CLAY Award (California Lawyer Attorney of the Year) in the category of “Legal Ethics.” The CLAY awards recognize California attorneys who have changed the law, substantially influenced public policy or the profession, or achieved a remarkable victory for a client or for the public.
Mr. Axelrad and Ms. Perrochet was recognized for their handling of Kirk v. First American Title Insurance Company, in which the California Court of Appeal held that law firms can use effective ethical screening procedures to avoid automatic disqualification of the entire firm when one member of the firm has a conflict of interest warranting disqualification. The case attracted numerous amicus briefs and the decision was the subject of widespread coverage in the legal media.
This is Ms. Perrochet’s second CLAY award. She won a CLAY award in 2007 for her work on Border Business Park, Inc. v. City of San Diego. In that case, the California Court of Appeal reversed a $91.7 million inverse condemnation award against the City of San Diego and ordered a new trial on a $30.8 million breach of contract award against the City.
