Horvitz & Levy retained for appeals in six of the most important California jury verdicts in 2010.

January 20, 2011

On January 19, 2011, the Daily Journal published a list of the ten largest California plaintiffs’ jury verdicts by dollar amount, the ten largest plaintiffs’ jury verdicts by impact, and the ten most significant defense verdicts. (Subscription required.) Horvitz & Levy LLP has been retained to work on post-trial motions and/or the appeal in five of those cases, and a sixth case with a judgment that exceeds many of those on the list. Of the cases on the Daily Journal list, Horvitz & Levy is challenging the $319 million judgment against Buena Vista Television and ABC in Celador International Ltd. v. The Walt Disney Co., the $31.6 million judgment in Landeros v. Torres, and the judgments in two other cases where our involvement is not yet a matter of public record. In addition to challenging these plaintiff’s verdicts, Horvitz & Levy assisted with trial strategy and the preparation of motions in City of Redlands v. Shell Oil Co., one of the Daily Journal’s ten most significant defense verdicts of 2011. The firm will be lead appellate counsel defending that judgment on appeal.

Horvitz & Levy is also lead appellate counsel in Don Johnson Productions, Inc. v. Rysher Entertainment, Inc., where the trial court issued an amended judgment in December that increased the plaintiff’s award to $52.4 million, making Rysher the ninth largest plaintiffs’ judgment of 2011.
